Let’s Get Culinary!

It’s 8 hours 59 minutes until my Basic Food Preparation (Basic) class starts. My computer gives me calendar updates next to the date and time, which I have to admit are seriously helpful. Anyway, I had my first Basic class last week and it was really fun!

We had a tour of the kitchen, went over the syllabus and class schedule, we introduced ourselves, got to know the instructor, and went over some interesting beginning of food industry information. Did you know that after the French Revolution, when guilds were dissolved, the number of restaurants in Paris went from 50 to 500? This also gave me a chance to test out note taking on my new student Notion template and I was super pleased with it.

This week I also got into my online class, Safety & Sanitation (S&S). I had a meeting with one of the adjunct instructors and we chatted about the class and my goals in the culinary program. She seemed very nice and was pretty sure I wouldn’t have an issue with the demands of online learning or coursework.

Also, I will be taking the SafeServ Manager test at the end of S&S. So that’s awesome! It’s good for 5 years and while I don’t intent on actually working in the industry, that information will be invaluable when I am cooking and preparing food in the future. I’m glad the program has such an emphasis on safety.
