I have always loved fondue. Even the Melting Pot, overpriced as it was, was as special treat to me because I love cheese, I love it melty, and I don’t need to elaborate.
So when we were having a friend stay with us, I had a sudden thought. What if we had a fondue party? Not only that, but instead of simply buying a one-purpose fondue pot, what if we procured a hotpot with a divider in the middle? Then I could create two savory fondues, wash it out, then do two sweet fondues, and the world is our… fondue.
Long story short: I am a genius.

(she was disappointed in all of us)
Here are the fondues we made!
In the Foolproof Cheese Fondue I couldn’t find the Emmentaler Cheese, so it ended up being a Gruyere fondue. Which was just as delicious. When I was figuring out the heat settings on the hotpot, I accidentally broke one of the fondues because the temperature got up too high. Still tasted great, though! I figured out where the heat needed to be by the time dessert rolled around.
There is a learning curve on those because hotpots will get much hotter than fondue pots. Which is kind of one of the reasons why I wanted one. All of the recipes I encountered stated that you had to make the recipe on the stove and then move it to the fondue pot to keep it warm. I am not only lazy, but I hate dishes. So I wanted to make the fondue in the pot I am serving it in. Thankfully, that is totally possible in a hotpot, you just have to keep a close eye on the heat.
All in all, I was delighted with the hotpot fondue party and definitely want to do it again. I would love to do a larger party, but I am slightly concerned about everyone being able to reach one pot. We could get another hotpot as they aren’t very expensive at all. However, that is a lot more setup and cheese grating.
We will see what happens!
