Omelette Bar Menu

I decided to do an omelette bar.

This is a great way to clear out the fridge and I got a change to work on my knife skills as I got to cut a lot of different veggies. As I was chopping the veggies and cooking up and bacon, I started wondering how I get everyone’s omelette order.

Ravioli: The Wonky Babies

I had never made pasta from scratch. It simply wasn’t something I had ever been interested it. It always seemed like a lot of work for something that tasted perfectly fine that you could get already made in a box from the grocery store.

Beer, Cheese, Soup?

In class we have been focused on making soups and I decided there was no better way to practice than to make a soup from my textbook. I picked one we wouldn’t make in class, just for variety. After polling the household for their top picks out of several soups in the book, it was clear the beer cheese soup was the easy winner. And I was happy to make it.

Sweet Arepas Success!

When it came to food challenges, naturally, he challenged me to make him arepas. I started with this Arepas recipe from Epicurious. They were good… But they weren’t the sweet arepas he was used to.

Week 3 Down: A Culinary School Update

Wow, time flies when you’re in the kitchen. Culinary school is intense, to say the least. It’s a lot to remember, a lot to keep in mind while you’re working, and — DON’T TOUCH YOUR FACE, YOU’LL HAVE TO REWASH YOUR HANDS!!

Let’s Get Culinary!

It’s 8 hours 59 minutes until my Basic Food Preparation (Basic) class starts. My computer gives me calendar updates next to the date and time, which I have to admit are seriously helpful. Anyway, I had my first Basic class last week and it was really fun! We had a tour of the kitchen, went…

Food Handler’s Certification: Check!

Classes start in two days and I am checking off boxes as I go. One was to get my Food Handler’s Certification so I can actually cook food in class. Next up, figuring out what in the world the bookstore is doing with my chef clothing order.

Tuna Duo

Had a bunch of tuna and found out it was just going to be me and the husband for dinner. Figured I’d make two tuna dishes to keep it interesting….

Chicken & Dumplings not Chicken IN Dumplings

It hadn’t occurred to me that I had never actually had chicken and dumplings before I decided I was going to make them. Reading over the recipe from The Novice Chef, it struck me, I had long thought that the chicken went inside the dumpling. Not in the soup itself. And clearly, if I had…

Christmas has Come a Little Early

My bestie, the one who gave me the idea for the title of this blog, went hard this year for Christmas presents. A box showed up with these beauties in it and I was thrilled! I had barely had a chance to flick through all of them and get a feel for each cookbook when…

Christmas Dinner Party

I tend not to do well when I have a lot of time on my hands. Case in point, we had one person over for dinner and I did this: The Table Dinner And yes, the matcha cookies ended up looking like dragon eggs. But they tasted great. And who doesn’t like a good dragon…

Chocolate-Dipped Shortbread Cookies

First of all, my mom gave me these star cookie cutters a while ago and I finally got a chance to use them. Turns out, they’re older than I am. Anyway, I’ve never been a big fan of shortbread cookies. I find them kind of dry. But I found this recipe on Sugar Spun Run…

Chocolate Cherry Drop Cookies [Recipe]

Chocolate Cherry Drops were my favorite cookies from childhood. My mom didn’t make them often, but when she did, they rarely lived to see the light of the following morning. As one of the things my mom made that was actually really good, this was quite a rarity. Imagine my delight as an adult when…

Things I Think About…

It is so much cheaper to eat at home. I mean… we all know this. But after our roomie moved in, we all started cooking together and wow, suddenly I’m like, why do we have all this extra money in our account at the end of the week? But there’s one category we’re definitely underspending…

Cookie Season Continues

Let’s face it… It’s cookie season. These beauties are Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies from Pinch of Yum. Made for a friend who celebrated his birthday recently and asked for some homemade cookies. I had to sample one, of course, for quality control. And let me say, I was a bit upset this recipe only made…

The First Christmas Cookies of the Season

Come on, who doesn’t love Christmas cookies? No matter how Grinchy, we all love a good cookie. I decided to bake up a healthy cookie for Daniel and went with Chocolate Covered Katie’s Healthy Pumpkin Cookies. Although, I think she should have titled these cookies Healthy Oatmeal Pumpkin Chocolate Chip cookies, because it has all…

Kitchen Reorganization with New Pots on the Side

We moved into the new house in May 2024. When we moved in, I was running on fumes. Naturally, I wanted to do my lightning fast unpacking, as usual. But when it came to organizing, I just stuck things on shelves, and called it a day. I was too stressed, and exhausted to attempt to…

Unicorn Food Abounds!

Unicorn weekend has officially kicked off! We picked up our unicorn birthday girl from the airport last night. Before she arrived, I got to making some unicorn snacks!

Here is what I made and my thoughts on each one.

Pre-College Skill Assessment

Before I begin my journey in culinary arts, I’m going to evaluate myself in a bunch of skills I found on this random blog. I thought it would be fun, but it would also help to show me how far I have come at the end of my degree plan.

I will grade my current skills on a scale of 1 through 10. 1 being the worst, and 10 being the best. Let’s go!

What is My DEAL?!

Let’s start with a brief bio that may or may not be relevant. I will try to stay on topic: I currently hold two bachelor’s degrees (one in English, one in Business Administration), I work full-time in my field as a documentation specialist, and I’m not looking to switch careers. I realize a lot of people find this odd, but when I say I am a lifelong learner, I am not playing around.
